How to travel Tibet? and Visa Processing?

1.If you plan to travel to Tibet from Kathmandu, Nepal, it is possible but due to the recent changes of China visa policy, it takes more time and two approval steps to get it.

Updated Tibet Visa Process:

  1. The visa now requires two approval steps from the China Embassy:
  2. Online submission – After arriving in Nepal, we will submit your arrival stamp from Nepal immigration, passport copy, and passport-size photograph online. Approval generally takes 3–5 days (depending on the queue).
  3. Physical submission – Once approved, we submit your original passport, a hardcopy passport photo, and the visa fee to the China Embassy in Kathmandu. They then issue the visa and return your passport within 4 working days.

2.If you plan to travel to Tibet from your country, travelers need to obtain a China visa in their country and spend a night in mainland China (such as Beijing, Chengdu, Chongqing, or Kunming) to obtain the Tibet Travel Permit. This permit will be provided in hard copy at the hotel before your arrival. We would be happy to assist you in booking a hotel for one night in any city in China.
